SMART WASTE CENTRES
Efficient, ergonomic and hygienic processing of waste

Our Smart Waste Centres collect and segregate dry recyclable or mixed waste to sell to recyclers or further process on-site.

The centres have advanced hardware, processes and IT, including a proprietary design conveyor belt and performance dashboard, to optimise operations and QHSE.

Efficient operations requiring less space

More recycling, also of low-value waste

Better jobs for waste workers

Transparency through data management

Clean, ergonomic and hygienic center
OUR IMPACT
Four best-in-class facilities in India and Indonesia

Before

After
We have tripled capacity and drastically improved working conditions in two centres in Bangalore, and have supported set up of two new facilities in Bangalore and Indonesia.

WHAT IS A SMART WASTE CENTRE?
A four-step solution to process waste safely and efficiently
1
Hardware: Proprietary design conveyor belt

The conveyor belt is designed based on European principles, but smaller, cheaper, simpler and manufactured locally. A baler is used for efficient storage and transport.

The belt has smart mechanisms to distribute the waste on the belt and transport segregated materials. Speed and configuration can be adapted to accommodate for changing waste flows.

IT: Performance dashboard to manage operations

The performance dashboard monitors waste, financials and productivity, designed for use by illiterate workers.
A basic version is currently used, we are looking for funding and partners to develop an advanced version including apps and IoT devices to enhance data recording and user experience. The design is ready. Want to support? Contact us

Processes: A total package to run the facility smoothly

We have Standardized Operating Procedures and extensive training for operations, maintenance, financial management and QHSE. Each centre has a site lay-out and workflow designed for efficient processing and storage.

Organic waste: composting or biogas (optional)
We offer organic waste processing solutions through partners, like the Indian company Mailhem-Ikos which has installed more than 300 biogas systems and manage several scientific landfills in India.

WHAT WE DO

Our clients choose the operating model: Design, Build, Operate (DBO) or Design, Build, Implement, Transfer (DBIT). We can operate the facility long-term or transfer operations to a local organisation. In the latter case we offer auditing services to ensure operations and QHSE remain up to standards.
We offer care-free solutions. From design until operations are running independently
Design
The design of the site, hardware and workflow is tailored to the local context, based on ‘days in the life of’ to experience the existing way of working.
Build
We deliver the hardware directly or manage the sourcing process, select local suppliers and supervise construction and installation.
Operate or Implement and Transfer
After a period of intensive handholding, we keep striving for continuous improvement monitored by our dashboards. If operations are transferred, the local organisation is trained in doing so.
Partnering for impact
Local governments, NGO’s, companies and stakeholders are involved in our projects to make it work. Read more about our partners
